Spruce Lake Retreat depends on volunteers throughout the year to keep our ministry flourishing! We are very grateful for all the people who have joyfully given many hours of time over the years at the Retreat Center and at Wilderness Camp.

Generally, Voluntary Service involves the help of adults and youth for a day here and there, or even parts of a day, rather than larger blocks of time. However, people who want to volunteer for larger time frames are always welcome! Voluntary Service also includes the seasonal role of Campground Host, which is explained in detail under the Adult Service Experience heading below.

We’d love to have you join our Volunteer Team!

Kitchen Volunteers:
During almost any weekends throughout the year and on many midweek days over the summer, our kitchen staff would love to have your help. Often a couple or several individuals will come for a certain weekend, and all will help with food preparation, service or cleanup.  Our kitchen staff will help you feel part of the team.  As a volunteer, your meals and lodging are free, and the blessings of helping to minister to our guests are yours to keep forever.  If you have a favorite weekend or time of the year that you want to volunteer, contact us with the heading “Kitchen Volunteer,” and we will get in touch to let you know if the time you would like is available.

VolunteerMaintenance Volunteers:
We are always looking for men and women who have been gifted by God to work with their hands. Our maintenance team has identified over 200 projects for which they can use help accomplishing.  Some require specific skills in such areas as carpentry, plumbing or electrical work, and some simply require basic “handyman” skills.  Some jobs need a crew of volunteers and others are one-person jobs.  Some projects you might even be able to complete in your own workshop and bring to Spruce Lake.

Many projects can be best done during the week of our off-season time when repairs are less disruptive to our guests, but we also schedule work groups on a number of weekends throughout the year.  We will provide free lodging and food during your work time.  Call us at 800-822-7505 if you want to be a Maintenance Volunteer; give us an idea of your skills and how you would like to help.

Our annual Woodcutting Day is set for October 13, 2012. Join us for the fun of working outdoors together as we gather our firewood supplies for winter use! Lunch and tools are provided. However, if you have a chainsaw or a log splitter you can bring, please let us know. We'll need a count of our helpers for the day, so please call 800-822-7505 to tell us you are coming.

If you have your own business and want to bring a crew of people to complete a major project but can’t afford to do it for free, just let us know how you would like to help or what discount you can offer.  We will do our best to work out the details.  You and your crew would enjoy nice lodging, free food and the chance to enjoy all that Spruce Lake has to offer during your free times.

VolunteerAdult Service Experience:
Our Adult Service Experience (ASE) involves the seasonal role of Campground Host, or personally selected time frames tailored to your specific needs and interests, whether for one month, or two or several weeks. We’ll arrange for on-site housing as needed and/or available for these service opportunities.

ASE is geared to adults – singles, couples, semi-retired, retired -- who seek meaningful short-term service opportunities, either entirely as unpaid voluntary work or for wage reimbursement.

ASE participants can experience the rewards of being part of our intergenerational service team.
